Cash-Back Credit Card Rewards Offers Going Strong

Debit-card reward programs may be fizzling, but cash-back credit card rewards are going strong, a new analysis from Bankrate.com finds.

In fact, cash-back credit card rewards improved “modestly” over the past year, according to Bankrate, which looked at 50 credit cards, from 19 large issuers, in early January. Roughly half of the cards included in the study pay 1 percent cash back, up from 44 percent in last years study. And some even pay more than 1 percent.

(Higher rewards, though, are often limited to certain categories of purchases or have special conditions. Capital One’s No Hassle Cash Rewards credit card, for instance, offers 2 percent back on gas and groceries, and 1 percent on everything else. And t
